Playtime New York is such an inspired show. It was a privilege to be amongst so many artists who make children’s wears their medium. To call these “highlights” would be a misnomer because the whole show is a highlight. What’s not mentioned here will likely get its own post in the near future. I am just brimming with excitement over new designers, hand-crafted items made with love, and innovation from old favorites.
From New York, newcomer Ilana Anger debuts the exquisite Little Lief, named for and inspired by her daughter:
We saw lots of natural fleece including these balletic booties come from Elks & Angels:
as well as this lovely jacket lined with a pretty floral from French newbie Vent Contraire:
For the Mamans, they also handcraft a jewelry line. I loved this display on old frames:
It was such a pleasure to meet the designers behind some of my very favorite lines. Katherine Edmonds continues to delight with this pirate’s vest and corduroy shark pants from Wovenplay:
Dagmar, Dagmar, Dagmar. A very impressive showing from Miss Dagmar Daley. Pattern on pattern in blacks, creams, and pinks make me want to fast forward to the fall (which is nuts, considering the winter we’ve had):
A brief glimpse at the Liberty prints from Makié:
More lovely prints in flattering silhouettes from maternity designer En Sainte, a very clever play on words (homonym enceinte is French for pregnant, and en sainte roughly translates to “with saint”):
Pale Cloud made a strong debut. This English line knows coats and sweaters like no one’s business!
Capes will be everywhere this fall. Below, Kico Kids colorful addition, and Namhee’s version, again in fleece:
Little Esop made quite an impression on me with their otherworldly display. I love the juxtaposition between that and these rickrack jumpers from a bygone era:
